The Assault on Reality / Re: Funny coincidences...

Ellis, the former head of an organization devoted to recruiting women to enter politics" ROFL.

In seriousness, though, it's a pretty common last name. Gets weird sometimes, naturally. Easy thing for synchronicity to exploit.

Maybe this can be a way for people to participate who won't be able to see the eclipse. Anyone would be able to project into the full moon two weeks prior.
#63
For $5000 we might be able to tag the thing soon :p

My thoughts are of the solar eclipse ritual, of course, and that I did precisely what you're describing during the lunar eclipse of September 2015.

Absolutely go for it. The fact that you're even bringing this up right now is synchronous.

That's a good idea. Do you know any resources for researching these guys?

After reaching out to the natural and supernatural forces and presenting an offering, I was able to contact the khaos-dragon-moon-monster on its pass by the sun. The space below and around the altar suddenly took on a dark, expansive feeling. I announced my recognition and asked what else we can do to prepare for its coming. The cards drawn were

Ten of wands
Page of cups
Page of pentacles

Which I read as a suggestion to use the intervening time well to pour more energy into the anticipation of this thing. Anyone is welcome to help with this of course, even if you can't come to the physical event. What else can we do during these lead up events? More smoke and libations? If I created a mantra and posted it, would anyone else use it? I don't have a drum, but maybe take a frying pan out at night and wake everyone up?

I think "ominous" is the feeling we're going for right now. Perhaps some warning flyers to spread around the community, or even go out on the streets with a costume and a sign warning people about the End?

Four months to go to the eclipse. It looks like I'm still going to be on the west coast at that time, so I'll be doing it in Oregon with the locals. I have some invocations half written and tomorrow or Wednesday I start invoking the dragon aspect I plan to use for this thing.

Afaik, the other gathering in Cerulean, KY is still taking place at a cemetery coincidentally named Trigg's Furnace.

My skeletal ritual structure has three major invocations: first, a call to the primordial forces of nature and the dragon-potential in them, then to all worlds of myth and spirit and their dragon-potential, and finally to the tunneling khaos-wyrm and its crazy, permuting, halfbreed children, represented by the moon and its shadow.

I'll post more as it becomes stable enough to share.

Definitely bone. The last image shows the base which looks less mushroomy.

The Armchair's Lounge / What is this animal skull

I found this in the woods when I was setting stuff up surrounding the strumming. It's that white thing at the bottom left of the tree. I thought it was a mushroom at first, because it doesn't appear to have eye sockets? If you look closely in the 2nd and 3rd pictures, there's a patch where it looks like the bone was grated by something. What is this?

Here are photos of some of our tags from Friday evening, before the Strum. We printed off about a hundred LSes and stuck them all over campus along with a few other propagandoid bits. We chose locations with varying degrees of hiddenness, so some will be very visible and probably taken down within a few days, while the rest will trickle out of the woodwork over time.

On the back of each were coordinates leading to a shrine thingy in the woods nearby:

This is the location where I found the mirror shards used for Floodgate, and a lot of them are still around there on the ground.

Results:

A few minor synchronicities while walking around setting up - a door opened that was supposed to be locked, a friend in an unrelated facebook group mentioned that she "still has to upload the linky doodle," referring to a hyperlinked document, things like that. Microsoft word crashed the first time I sent the print job. Power outage over campus Friday morning.

I walked around Saturday afternoon to see what I would see. Unfortunately (?) most students hadn't come back from break yet like I expected, so the campus is nearly empty. Perhaps this is a good thing; an unsuspecting housemate describes it as an eerie, almost apocalyptic silence, which could be a prime setting for those few people present to experience something weird.

From the strumming itself, the only thing I felt was a pain in my third eye during the word of power vibrations. It came back in my dreams afterward and disrupted my sleep. From what I remember, the dream was a repeat performance of the ritual, technical difficulties and all.

This would be very applicable for the eclipse working, since we'll likely have at least two physical locations plus a bunch of distance workers.

Some things I would suggest from last nights working:

- No last minute changes to ritual structure. That kind of thing is fine in meatspace, but it's too difficult to get the message across to every participant when we're also dealing with tech problems and bad audio. The final plan for the ritual needs to be posted on the forum at least a day in advance, including precisely what we're doing re: banishing and opening and what everyone's part will be. Of course there can be set times within the structure for improvisation.

- The people participating need to say so in advance, and have the attendance list locked a day before it happens. Maybe there could be a separate circle on its own channel for people who want to throw in at the last minute in a less structured way.

- All those participating need to gather on hangouts or discord or wherever a day or two before, make sure the platform will support them and work out any tech issues.

This applies more for big rituals with many participants and a lot of preparation. Smaller and more frequent things like that one a couple weeks ago are also good; they'll be messy but it's less of an issue because there's not so much investment.

You are of course welcome to disagree with me on this, and keep it loose because "Khaos, man, come on and get the wand out of your ass!" I remind you all that we are indeed working in chaotic forces with a history of fucking up technology and power grids. We want to aim for a situation where we show up an hour before the ritual and twiddle our thumbs until it's time to start, if we're doing it at a set time, specifically because it will never truly happen like that, there will always be something that we need to deal with last minute. And if not, no problem, it's called hangouts for a reason :)

General Occultism / The problem with the old gods
March 20, 2017, 04:10:50 PM
"Your new gods can't stand up to something that's received dedicated worship for thousands of years! Lives have been sacrificed to empower X!"

And this is a real problem. Pretty much every religion in history has been heavily interwoven with defense of the status quo and the justification of authority. Many gods that modern pagans/witches/occultists/whatthefuckever work with have attributes that explicitly enforce outdated values. Odin? He's a king. Artemis? Made a big deal about virginity and punished one of her followers for being raped. Sekhmet? Murderous rampage against anyone who contested the "divine" rulership. Many people claim these gods as meaningful allies, but how can we trust a being that has such a record? Beyond that, how can we forgive them?

The way I see it, there are a few solutions:

1. Don't work with gods, period. Deal only with lesser entities that you can keep a tight reign on, or don't depend on spirits at all. This is a credible way to practice, but it's not everyone's style.

2. Only work with entities that have no track record of such abuses. They're hard to find, and if you go with something obscure then there's always the possibility that the myths that indicate such allegiance have been lost. This solution tends to fall into three categories:
a. Beings that were understood by their culture of origin an adversary to all that is right. These might be worked with following the framework of Satanism, Setianism, and others of the type, where the being is treated as an embodiment of the chaotic good. The issue here is that while ancient moral codes were fucky in some ways, they weren't pure evil either. So much of what they attributed to their culture's devil really was rejected for a reason. This is how you get reactionary codes saying that things like greed and envy are virtues (yes, they can be, in moderation. That wasn't the point that Christians were making, however. See option number 3).
b. Tricksters and amoral, primordial things. Can certainly be good allies when they're not doing something legitimately cruel. One option is to treat all magical entities in this way, and trust no one, especially not the things that pretend to be trustworthy. That's easy to say, but in practice, everyone I see working with spirits who's not binding them like a goetic mage is exhibiting some level of trust. Usually rather a lot of trust.
c. Totally new gods, demi-gods, egregores or other things that have arisen very recently. This runs into the argument at the top of this post, where they may be comparatively weak. Without a historical grounding, their personality might shift rapidly, which may or may not be a good thing. Many of them are also tricksters, owing to being created/discovered by chaotes.

3. Reinterpretation. This is basically saying that the major body of worshipers were wrong, and the characteristics of the deity in question actually meant something more esoteric. Divine authority means transcendent truth, not mortal dictatorship. Virginity actually means some other kind of purity, male and female are more like yin and yang qualities than a reference to physical sex, and so on. The only issue here is that, if we are to consider gods as real, independent beings who are influenced at all by our vision of them, they might not agree to changing their values to match the times. Especially those that were honored as guardians of tradition in any way. If the whole body of modern practitioners refuses to deal with them in an aspect that we don't agree with, we're essentially giving them an ultimatum: change your ways, or be forgotten. But even if the deity is successfully modernized in this way, the myths and words used to describe them still carry the poison of their old interpretation – the implication that there is One Right Way.

All of this applies equally well to religions that are still alive, like Hinduism and the Abrahamic faiths. Gnosticism has some of its own history at least, but it still falls under category three, an interpretation that conflicts with that empowered by the mainstream.

Anyone is welcome to comment, but I especially want to hear the perspective of those who work with such entities and paradigms.

But knowing that, apparently, All woman would revel in an orgy with ten dirty and hairy men, gives me feelings of disgust.

Roflol

I haven't worked with Babalon, at least not extensively under that name. However, your wording may shed some light. "The Truth of our Flesh," you said. "The flesh of all women." It's true that all female bodies are shaped for the purpose of sex, as are males and... others. Our bodies create pleasant sensations in response to certain stimuli, and our brains are made to seek pleasure. That's the truth of the flesh.

But people are Complicated. Although we seek pleasure, the intricate wiring of brain and soul can be such that other experiences, even imaginary ideals, bring more joy than sexual touch. There are also negative stimuli that the brain will try to avoid (I believe it's possible to undercut that, which likely would lead to some orgies if done completely, but it holds for most people), and for most women that includes dirty hairy guys. The whore archetype is an isolated principle. It's impossible for a human to live up to for any length of time, because it means having no boundaries, which would quickly lead to disease and death. This is also the truth of the flesh.

(Although the Aghoris seem to do alright. "Black magic" or something. Go figure.)

As for the idealization: Strength and independence are respectable, and some people live that through abstinence. But since cultures tend to keep women under the boot via slut shaming, the Whore shows her independence by fucking whoever she wants. If that disgusts you... get over it.
