General Occultism / Re: Physical manifestations.

If you came to the internet to learn that, you're gonna have a bad time. The level of either natural aptitude and/or training necessary is not something you can just slap into a book or a thread or whatever and call it good, any more than you can read a book on driving a car when you're 12 and just go drive on a busy fast-paced highway.

Already have plans. Been planning since 2014. Prime time for fuckery and shenanigans and tomfoolery.

I take anecdotes of contact with deities with a big ol' shaker of salt. I feel like if you really got in touch with a deity, it would have a big impact of some kind or another. If someone's talking to me about it and I feel no sense of "weight" to the energy behind it (if that makes any sense), I basically disregard it altogether as something they're tossing around in their own mind or as something that is not what it appears to be.

I mean...I guess if it makes them feel better to pretend they got in touch with a deity, no harm no foul?...but my personal paradigm is one where fact-checking is a must, and one is to be constantly vigilant to keep their feet firmly planted on the ground even if their head is way up there in the clouds. I kinda feel 'eh' about the snowflakey way a some will talk about their interactions with deities. Almost like they're so awesome that deity totes wants to hang out with them all day -- meanwhile there's really nothing to show for it. Know what I mean?

Sooo I've been on the Facebook group for some time now, but I never got around to the forums until now. Because I'm lazy and Facebook's easier to remember to check, haha! Anyways yes. I'm 28, from Michigan (Texas born-and-raised though), and I'm one of those weirdo natural-born magic people who had to figure out what was going on with me along the way because magic was this thing that sort of was there disrupting my life from day one and making all the muggles go "omg freak!" or whatever. I use an energy-based model of magic, usually cutting the middle man out to just reduce it to a glance, a flick of the hand, a word or two, and done. I can't not do magic, it's weirdly kind of intertwined with my life and always has been. To me the assault on reality is highly personal and serious, because it's sort of like...giving people like me more space to just EXIST. Because for us, we can't turn it off, ever.

Been working closely with Ellis (with brief encounters of a few of the other godforms, chiefly Doombringer with whom I seem to work well for some reason, and a smattering of hangouts with Zalty and the like) for months now. Currently working on a bunch of different projects, including about 6 pounds of glass gems with sparkly glittery LS sigils on them because I'm obsessed with balance and Ellis seemed to hone in on that with me and push me toward flushing more healing-ish, light-ish magicks into the web.

I'm generally a weird mix of blunt, bubbly, hippie, artist (emphasis on surreal, psychedelic and comical/cartoony styles), writer/poet, and aggressive/warrior, with primal leanings and heavy Sagittarian adventure-happy madness. (You should see my natal chart. OMG. It's like it's all freakin' Sagittarius, man.) I live so far down the rabbit hole, way up there most other magical folk are all like "B*tch you crazy". But despite having embraced my inner freak, if there's one thing that can be said about me, when I put my mind to it I will plow through until I get sh*t done, come what may.

Glad to be here, cannot wait to dive right on in to the conversation, and for those of y'all who already know me -- hi again, seeya 'round on Facebook as always. Much love all around! (...maybe some death metal for the more edgy folks.  8)  )

I would suggest that a brochure-style format would be the best way to distribute on a wide scale. I've been tossing around ideas in my head for brochure-like layouts. Kind of an inverted throwback to my fundie days when we would spam christian tracts all over the damn place, hah!

As for methods...hmm. I wouldn't spring for the telepathy idea. It's hard enough to get a skeptic to believe much of anything, but telepathy is probably too far of a stretch. Go for things they can document heavily as they go along.

I remember Arjil mentioning at some point the ghost cat experiment. I really liked that idea. Where the person is urged to pretend they have a ghost cat in their house. When after some time the ghost cat actually appears, well... Certainly something like that, with thoughtforms, might be a great idea. I've read about this cool experiment where a group got together, created the idea of a ghost from scratch (complete with a name, appearance, etc.) and then started really focusing in on and trying to contact the ghost at regular intervals -- using things like Ouija and seances, if I recall? I believe they had some pretty mindfucky results with that. I can try to google around and post some links to that stuff. So yeah I'd suggest something like that, personally.

Encouraging note-taking and documentation would be great, also. Appeal to the skeptic's obsession with the scientific method, Occam's Razor and rules of logic. Seriously. Fight fire with fire. That's how I ended up breaking down my own barriers. Kinda go into their own little materialist-model-science world and break it that way. Start with a heavy agreement that yes, the scientific method is good, hey we've done our research and here's how you can too -- that kinda thing.

Best of luck on your idea! Sounds wonderful!

Yeah, I'd agree with Aliga -- Abrahamic paradigms carry an extreme antimagical current, that is true. Kinda have to tiptoe around those. I occasionally find the thingy weirdly lurking around pockets of sufficiently-persistent "skeptic" currents, too, and also just weirdly crawling out of the woodwork sometimes when I'm throwing around big enough magicks.

Aside from that, well. I'm curious if I should like, paste here what I've mentioned on FB? Whatcha think, Arjil? I did mention I was gonna start a thread over here, thankfully you remembered to do that since I forgot completely.
